I am coming to you this morning to talk about a subject that just seems to be ignored or at the very least, overlooked.
You know, we have all heard the saying, "sometimes the teacher becomes the student"..... well, that is pretty much where I
am today. I am coming to you...not as the teacher....not as a preacher, or a pastor....but as a student, that is earnestly
seeking the truth! I am going to give you the subject, and the scriptures this morning on a subject that has interested me
for a lot of years, and then I am going to ask YOU to be the teacher. I am asking that YOU search the scriptures, YOU pray
for our Heavenly Father to give you the answers, and then, after you have studied, and prayed for guidance and instruction,
then I am asking that YOU come back here and share with me what the Lord has revealed to you on this subject.
Let
us pray...... Our Heavenly Father, we come to you this morning with humble heart, and an earnest desire to know all the truths
that you would have us know. We love you Father and we want to magnify your name this morning! Oh Lord we just want to PRAISE
your WONDERFUL name! Father, we ask that you forgive us this morning for any short comings, or wrong that we have done, because
we know Lord that we are not perfect! We know Heavenly Father that there is no one on this old earth that is perfect, Lord,
but we know that it is your love, your grace, your blood, that perfects us... that cleanses us.... that saves us! Lord we
know that we are so unworthy of your precious love, and yet you give it so freely! We thank you for that oh Heavenly Father,
we love you Lord, and we give you all the honor and praise this morning as we pray for your blessings here and away from here
this day. Amen!!
Our scripture this morning is from First Corinthians chapter
11.
Let us read beginning with verse one:
1 Corinthians 11 1Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 2Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember
me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. 3But I would have you
know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. 4Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. 5But
every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she
were shaven. 6For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for
a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. 7For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch
as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8For the man is not of
the woman: but the woman of the man. 9Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for
the man. 10For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. 11Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. 12For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. 13Judge
in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? 14Doth not even nature itself teach you,
that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 15But if a woman have long hair, it is a
glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. We
will stop right there for a moment. And yes, as you have probably already guessed, what I am wanting us to talk about this
morning is the question of Head Covering in worship. This is a subject that I have very RARELY heard ANY Minister, in ANY
denomination, in ANY church, ANYwhere, talk about. My question to you this morning is "WHY??" We have been taught from childhood
that we are not to add to or take away from the Bible. Why, even the ones that believe that 'the Old Testament was "done away
with" and doesn't mean anything to us" will have to admit, that this question is in the NEW TESTAMENT. So why is it ignored???
This is straight out of Paul's teaching in the book of First Corinthians! And yet, it is not taught to us. It is just overlooked,
like an irrelevant ad in a paper somewhere.... why? Paul
said in verse 5... 5But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth
her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. hmmm.....
I want to see that verse in the NIV... 5And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it
is just as though her head were shaved. Ok, for all that like to say, "Well, the covering just means her hair".... hmmmm..... did you read
verse 6? 6If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is
a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. Very
interesting! How can ANYone read verse 6 and then come back and say that "the covering was her hair" ????
And
how can ANYone come back and say, "Well, that was just for then and it don't have anything to do with us today"????? Are you
not the same people that would stand in your pulpit, or where ever you might be teaching from, and say "The Bible is the same
today as yesterday and will be the same tomorrow????" Then PLEASE tell me, how you get to pick and choose what is relevant
for us today, if it was relevant then? When did it change? Who changed it? And on whose authority did they change it?
Okay,
folks, I told you that today I wanted to be the student. So I am gonna stop right there. I am not going to give an opinion,
nor a suggestion, nor anything. I am just simply laying out the scripture in front of you, with some questions, and it is
my prayer and my desire this morning that as you read these scriptures, you will do it with a prayerful heart and that the
Lord will reveal to you His truth, and His desire in this subject, and that you will come back and share with the rest of
us what HE has revealed to you on this subject.
God bless you and keep you and I pray that
everyone will have be blessed in a mighty way today and the rest of this coming week.
